Small water-tube boilers are a type of industrial boiler known for their efficiency and ability to operate at high pressures and temperatures. Unlike fire-tube boilers, which have water surrounding the tubes carrying hot gases, new industrial boilers have water flowing inside the tubes with hot gases surrounding them. This design allows for more rapid heat transfer, making water-tube boilers suitable for applications requiring quick steam generation and high thermal efficiency. Here are two common types of small water tube boilers:
This kind of boiler is mainly composed of upper and lower drums, water-cooled walls, headers, downcomers, convection tube bundles and other components (Figure 3–12). Its evaporation capacity is divided into two types: 2 tons/hour and 4 tons/hour. It has the simplest structure and the smallest capacity water tube boiler.
The upper and lower drums are placed transversely at the rear of the furnace. The centers of the two drums are not in a vertical line. The upper drum is slightly tilted forward. A convection tube bundle is expanded between the two drums.
The convection tube bundles are made of bent seamless steel tubes with an outer diameter of 51 mm and are arranged in a row. Smoke folding walls are set up between the tubes to make the flue gas flow in a "Z" shape when passing through the tube bundles. The water-cooling wall is arranged along the front wall and ceiling of the furnace. The lower header of the water-cooling wall is arranged on the lower part of the outer side of the front wall. Two downpipes are led from both ends of the upper drum and connected to the lower header of the water-cooled wall through the outside of the side wall. The upper end of the water-cooled wall tube is directly introduced into the upper drum. Use fixed grate or hand-cranked movable grate to burn in layers.
This kind of boiler uses bent water tubes as water-cooled walls and convection tube bundles, which facilitates expansion and contraction, and the overall structure has good elasticity; it has sufficient furnace volume and is suitable for burning a variety of fuels. However, workers are required to add coal, which is labor-intensive; there are few heating surfaces in the furnace, there is no economizer in the tail flue, the exhaust temperature is high and the efficiency is low; the lower part of the convection tube bundle is easy to accumulate dust, etc. In recent years, in response to these problems, many units have carried out technical transformation of this type of boiler.
D-type layout is a common layout of small water tube boilers in recent years. Its basic characteristics are that the centers of the double drums are on the same vertical line, the axis of the double drums is parallel to the axis of the furnace, and one side of the boiler is the furnace and water-cooled wall.; the other side is the heating surface, such as the flue and convection tube bundle, and the entire boiler is in a "D" shape.
The combustion equipment of the coal-fired D-type boiler can be a chain grate, a vibrating grate, a reciprocating grate, etc. Oil-fired boilers are also commonly used in D-type arrangements. Figure 3-13 shows a D-type boiler using a vibrating grate.
The main components include upper and lower drums, convection tube bundles, water wall systems (water walls, downcomers, headers), economizers, etc. Some boilers also have superheaters.
The diameter of the upper drum is slightly larger than that of the lower drum, and a convection tube bundle is connected between the two drums.
The convection tube bundle consists of seamless steel pipes with an outer diameter of 51 mm, which are arranged in series in the convection flue. The convection flue is divided into two halves longitudinally by the fire-resistant wall, and the flue gas flows along the convection flue in a U-shape.
Water-cooled walls are arranged around the furnace, and each side of the water-cooled walls is equipped with downpipes and lower headers to form a closed water circulation system. The economizer is arranged in the tail flue.
